Stegreif's ‘freebruckner’ - a recomposition of Anton Bruckner's Symphony No. 7 in E major - will be performed in the Chamber Music Hall of the Berlin Philharmonie as part of the Musikfest Berlin's fantastic Programms "Neuland". This programme combines Bruckner's symphonic music with improvisational freedom and brings the great themes of loss, grief and hope into the present.
Known today primarily as a composer of great symphonies, Anton Bruckner was also famous during his lifetime for his art of improvisation on the organ. freebruckner combines the two elements typical of Bruckner: symphonic music and improvisation. We present the 7th Symphony with improvisational freedom and chamber music lightness. The famous Trauermusik of the Adagio is taken as a starting point to reflect on the challenges and losses of our time. The 26 musicians expand the classical orchestral sound with saxophone, drumset, electric guitar and their own vocals. In the here and now, moving freely in space, by heart and without a conductor, a performance is created that breaks down the boundaries between performers and visitors, between composition and improvisation.
