We are celebrating the premiere of Stegreif's latest production, escape valse – A danced concert, with a double concert at Kühlhaus Berlin. We look forward to two eventful and moving evenings with you!
In escape valse – A danced concert, the ensemble's core idea of ‘unity in diversity’ is brought into focus and expanded to include a new parameter: collaboration with dancers on stage. Waltzes – ‘the idea of a fantastic whirl from which no one can escape’ – this is what Maurice Ravel's work La Valse stands for, which he composed in 1920 as the ‘apotheosis of the Viennese waltz’. Based on this work, Stegreif creates escape valse – a danced concert, framed by further recompositions of impressionist works and choreographic images of individuals dancing in a frenzy – an escapist whirl in the face of social upheaval. From the swelling din, improvising individual voices make themselves heard, utopian sounds and also expressions of doubt. And yet, despite their apparent incompatibility, music and dance combine to form a kaleidoscopic whole.

A ballroom – ecstasy, eruption and connection.
In collaboration with dancer and choreographer Juan Kruz Diaz de Garaio Esnaola, one of the most prominent artists working in choreography with musicians, a production is being created that blends music and dance, musicians and dancers into a single entity, blurring the boundaries between concert and performance. Stegreif acts as a flexible, responsive stage for the dancers in a space that is constantly reshaping itself. At the same time, the moving orchestra creates a three-dimensional listening experience.
Musically, the recompositions by Mike Conrad, Lisa Morgenstern, Ralph Heidel, John Hollenbeck and Maria Gstättner combine the genres of jazz, electronic/techno, experimental/neo-classical and pop/alternative.
